Justification
A rare, localized species (EOO 9 km²), last recorded in 1946 in an area now extensively transformed to timber plantations. It possibly occurs in similar habitat in an adjacent protected area, but has not been recorded there despite the area being well explored. Not enough is known about the population status and trends of this species to determine its status.

Description
Rocky lower granite slopes.
Threats
Since this species was last recorded, its habitat in the lower Jonkershoek Valley has been extensively transformed to forestry plantations. Plantations are however no longer expanding, and some fragments remain, as well as extensive habitat further up the valley, which is protected within a provincial nature reserve. The species has however never been recorded there, despite the area being well explored. Possible remaining plants in forestry areas lower down the valley are likely to not flower very often as fires are excluded from plantations, and are also likely to be affected by competition from alien invasive plants.
Population

A rarely recorded species, last recorded in 1946. It flowers late (November-December), and possibly only in response to fire (Goldblatt and Manning 2011). As there has been extensive habitat loss within the immediate area where this species was last recorded, surveys are needed to determine whether plants still survive.
