This taxon has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 35 308 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 208 km². It is known from between 25 and 30 subpopulations and is not in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and occurs along the southern foothills of the Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountains from Swellendam in Western Cape to Humansdorp in Eastern Cape. It is evidently absent between Riversdale and George although it also occurs in the Long Kloof with outlying populations in the Great Swartberg.

Description
It occurs on lower sandstone slopes in fynbos or transitional fynbos.
Threats
This taxon has lost 15% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS). It is under threat from alien invasive species, and from harvesting.
