Justification | A locally abundant Eastern Cape endemic, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 13 722 km². Although its habitat is continuously degraded by alien invasive plants and gravel quarrying, this species still has many large subpopulations and is not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | This species is endemic to South Africa, and is locally abundant on the coastal plain from south of Swellendam to George in Western Cape. |

Threats |
Although this species has lost 48% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS) to agriculture (low-moderate); gravel quarrying; and alien infestation around Albertinia (Helme, 2006) it is still locally abundant. It is a poisonous species, so it is not grazed by livestock. Some patches experience ongoing loss, but these make up less than 5% of the total population. |
Population |
This species is locally abundant in its habitat and its population is stable.
