Justification
This taxon has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 14 301 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 120 km². It is known from between 20 and 22 subpopulations and the population is believed to have a stable trend. Despite the loss of suitable habitat in parts of its range it does not yet qualify for any of the IUCN threat categories and is therefore listed as Least Concern (LC).

This taxon is restricted to the mountains in southwestern Western Cape province, South Africa, from Bain's Kloof to Hermanus. It is replaced by subspecies major in the southern Cape Peninsula.

Description
It occurs on seasonally moist sandy flats, flowering best after fire.
Threats
It has lost some suitable habitat in parts of its range to infrastructure development, mining and competition from alien invasive species.
