Range
This species is endemic to South Africa, and occurs from the Bokkeveld Escarpment around Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape southwards to the Roggeveld Escarpment and the northern Cederberg.

Description
It occurs in damp sand and light clay, often along streams. Subpopulations from the western Karoo occur on stony doleritic clay.
Threats
Romulea hirta is threatened by habitat degradation.
