Assessor(s)
L. von Staden
Justification
A rare, localized and poorly known species. It is known from one location (EOO <10 km²), where it is declining due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Northern slopes of the Waboomsberg north-west of Montagu.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Matjiesfontein Shale Renosterveld
Description
Sandy pockets at the foot of a stony ridge.
Threats
The flats at the northern base of the Waboomsberg are extensively cultivated, although agricultural expansion is mostly sporadic. This species is likely to have lost some habitat to crop cultivation in the past. Remaining fragments of natural veld are often overstocked with livestock, and overgrazing is likely to cause ongoing habitat degradation.
Population

A rare, apparently localized species, last recorded in 1971. It occurs in an area that is botanically still relatively poorly explored, and more surveys are urgently needed to confirm the size and extent of the population.
