Justification
The genus Stomatium is in need of revision and most species are poorly understood. The distribution range and habitat requirements of Stomatium paucidens are not certain, and it has not been recorded in the wild since 1944. Therefore its risk of extinction cannot be assessed at present. It is listed as Data Deficient - Taxonomically Problematic (DDT).

Range
This species is endemic to South Africa, however, its distribution is unknown. Stomatium paucidens was described from cultivated material of unknown origin. Specimens in the Bolus Herbarium matched to the description suggest that it occurs between Fauresmith and Noupoort.
