Justification
Hermbstaedtia caffra is a widespread and common species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 18 863 km². It is declining due to habitat loss and degradation, but not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Description
It occurs in coastal wooded grasslands and margins of coastal forests and thickets, often near wetlands.
Threats
Hermbstaedtia caffra has lost 57% of its habitat to urban expansion, coastal development and sugarcane cultivation, and this loss continues.
Population

This widespread species is still common in spite of extensive habitat loss. Recent field observations recorded persistence at many locations. It is however declining due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
