Justification
EOO and AOO <0.5 km², one subpopulation of less than 250 mature individuals known. Declined in the past due to construction of a jeep track through the population, and there is a potential threat from erosion.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Kogelberg Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Marshy seeps and seepage areas adjacent to a non-perennial mountain streams, on southwest-facing slopes.
Threats
The only known population has a 4x4 track running right through it, which undoubtedly has caused the loss of mature individuals in this extremely small population. As the track is still used, continued erosion of the area is likely to cause further decline. It is also a single-stemmed reseeder and therefore vulnerable to too frequent fire.
Population

This species is very restricted in its distribution being known from only two small seepage areas in a single kloof. In both there are few plants, perhaps only several dozen in each (Oliver and Oliver 2000). In one of the seeps, about 50 plants were recorded in 1998 (Johns and Turner, pers. obs.).
