Justification
EOO 734 km², five known locations continue to decline due to unmanaged alien invasive plants and overgrazing.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Pearly Beach and Stilbaai.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Agulhas Limestone Fynbos, Hartenbos Dune Thicket
Description
Moderate to steep, southwest- to southeast-facing slopes on limestone ridges.
Threats
Both subpopulations are threatened by competition from dense infestations of unmanaged alien invasive wattles, even inside protected areas. At Stilbaai, one location is also threatened by severe overgrazing. Too frequent fire is a potential threat to this reseeder.
Population

Erica calcicola is known from two localized, isolated subpopulations, but in both areas, the species is locally common, and the total population size is estimated to exceed 10 000 mature individuals. With this unusually disjunct distribution, it is possible that other subpopulations may exist, but this species has never been collected in the intervening area, even in well-collected areas such as De Hoop Nature Reserve and the Agulhas Plain.
