Threats
Too frequent fire is threatening this species. The population has burnt at least four times within 15 years (Turner et al. 2011).
Population

Erica hanekomii is an extremely localized species, known from one small subpopulation occurring across a single ridge. All or parts of the population has burnt four times in 15 years, the most recent fire occurring in 2009. The population currently consists of 100 mature individuals and several seedlings/juveniles, totalling about 500 individuals (Turner et al. 2011), but is not declining.
