Status and Criteria | Vulnerable D2 |
Assessment Date | 2023/03/31 |
Assessor(s) | F. Munro, R.C. Turner, E.G.H. Oliver & A.G. Rebelo |
Justification | Endemic to marshy areas in the Cape Point section of Table Mountain National Park, where it has an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 60 km². It is known from one large, continuous population from fewer than five locations where it is potentially threatened by invasive alien plants. It is therefore listed as Vulnerable under criterion D. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | This species is known to occur in the Cape Peninsula in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. |

Alien invasive plants are severe in some parts of this species' range, especially along the Klassjagers River. While these areas have been cleared of aliens between 2010 and 2022, seedbanks of invasive acacias are still present and, if not properly managed will result in dense stands of aliens following future fires. |
Population |
One continuous population comprised of many stands of plants has been recorded frequently over the past 100 years.
|
Population trend | Stable |
Conservation |
It is conserved in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and in the Table Mountain National Park. |
