Description
Seasonally damp flats and streamsides.
Threats
Nearly all known subpopulations of this range-restricted habitat specialist are threatened by competition from alien invasive plants, even within national and provincial protected areas and private conservancies. In addition, inappropriate fire management is causing alien plants to spread and increase in density in areas already invaded (R.C. Turner, pers. obs.). In some areas, habitat was also lost to crop cultivation in the past, but ongoing loss is not severe.
Population

Erica colorans is a localized habitat specialist restricted to wetlands and streams, which are particularly prone to alien plant invasion, often acting as corridors along which alien plants spread. Subpopulations range in size between 200 and 10 000 mature individuals, and the total population size is estimated as at least 12 000 mature individuals, however it continues to decline.
