Justification | This range-restricted endemic (extent of occurrence 20 km²) is known from two subpopulations that face no threats as they are protected within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. It therefore qualifies for listing as Rare nationally and qualifies under the IUCN 3.1. criterion as Least Concern. |

Threats |
| Hybrids have been recorded between this taxon and E. fastigiata (Oliver and Oliver, 2005). The extent of this hybridization is unknown at present, but is not likely to be causing any population decline. Since its habitat is protected there are no other threats likely to impact this taxon. |
Population |
This taxon is known only from two subpopulations occurring at Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. It was noted as locally frequent in a collection made in 1984 by Oliver (#8610). The population trend is unknown but is likely to be stable.
