Justification
This extremely localized endemic to the Cape Peninsula (EOO 2 km², two known locations) declined in the past due to habitat loss to urban expansion and dam construction and is currently potentially threatened by competition from alien invasive plants and further dam construction.

South African endemic
Provincial distribution

Range
Cape Peninsula, between Kommetjie and Simon's Town.
Habitat and Ecology

Major habitats
Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Marshy areas on streambanks or at the head of mountain streams.
Threats
Declined in the past due to habitat loss to urban expansion and dam construction, however these threats have ceased as this species' remaining habitat is now protected. Further dam construction, for example enlargement of the Kleinplaas Dam, remains a potential threat. The lower reaches of both streams were densely invaded by alien wattles, which have been cleared, however alien clearing caused considerable damage to the streambanks - this species' habitat. Reinvading alien plants still remains a problem, and ongoing clearing and management is needed.
Population

Erica cyrilliflora is an extremely localized habitat specialist, occupying two adjacent streams on the Red Hill Plateau. Older records indicate that some plants may have been lost to urban expansion in the Kommetjie-Ocean View area in the past, as well as dam construction. Currently however, all remaining plants are protected within the Table Mountain National Park, and there are about 1500 plants along the stream above the Lewis Gray Dam, and another approximately 2000 plants in the Manelkloof.
