Justification
A range-restricted species that has an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 20 km². An estimated six locations are known. This species is currently threatened by alien invasive species and too infrequent fires. It is listed as Vulnerable under criterion B.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This species is endemic to the Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain and Constantiaberg in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos
Description
It occurs in rocky places at altitudes above 600 m.
Threats
This species is both under immediate and potential threat from invasive alien plants, predominantly Pinus pinaster and P. radiata. Currently, it is threatened by Acacia mearsnii and Acacia melanoxylon, both of which grow in dense stands. Lack of fire due to a mismanaged fire regime is also posing a threat, as many plants on the front Table are senescent.
Population

The majority of plants occur on Table Mountain, where at least 16 stands of plants have been recorded via observations on iNaturalist between 2017 and 2023. There is also a subpopulation that occurs on Constantiaberg. The population is suspected to be declining as a result of a lack of fire and habitat degradation from invasive alien plants.

Population trend
Decreasing
Conservation
This species is conserved in Table Mountain National Park.
