Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Southern Cederberg to Gydoberg.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Winterhoek Sandstone Fynbos, Cederberg Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Sandy, quartzitic plateaus on mountain summits.
Threats
This species occurs at high altitude in montane areas and its habitat is well protected. It is a reseeder and is however potentially sensitive to too frequent fire. The disappearance of this species from the Gydoberg is possibly linked to too frequent fire - this area has burnt twice within 10 years. Gideonskop in the Cederberg has burnt twice within four years, however, some plants did escape the fires.
Population

This species was first collected from the summit of the Gydoberg in the southern Koue Bokkeveld, but this subpopulation could not be relocated despite searches. It has also been recently recorded further north on two peaks in the southern Cederberg, where plants occur in small, localized subpopulations.
