Justification
This rare, localized species, with an estimated population size of fewer than 450 mature individuals is known from only two subpopulations, within an EOO of 4 km². One subpopulation has declined by more than 50% in the past two generations, apparently due to too frequent fire, and now consists of only 200 mature individuals. The size of the other subpopulation is not known, but it is suspected to be small.

Description
Cool, moist, rocky slopes.
Threats
Population decline in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve is likely due to too frequent fire: the area has burnt four times within 20 years. Threats at Maanskynkop are unknown.
Population

This long-lived, slow growing reseeder is known from only two subpopulations. It was first collected in 1934 on Maanskynkop, but all subsequent records are from a small area within the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, 6 km to the west. Searches for this species on Maanskynkop have been unsuccessful, although there are unconfirmed reports that it still occurs there. It is therefore estimated that this subpopulation is very small. The subpopulation at Fernkloof consisted of around 700 mature individuals in the 1980s, but after a fire, only one plant could be found in 2000. Recent reports (2007) indicate that there are currently around 200 mature individuals in this subpopulation.
