South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range

Habitat and Ecology
Major system

Major habitats
South Outeniqua Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Fynbos, on high altitude sandstone slopes.
Threats
A very small proportion (<5%) of this species' habitat has been transformed to timber plantations, and two subpopulations have been lost to timber plantations in the past (A.L. Schutte-Vlok pers. obs.). Timber plantations in this area are not economically viable and are unlikely to expand. Eighty five percent of this species' remaining habitat is protected within the Ruitersbos Provincial Nature Reserve. Some plants near the edge of the reserve are potentially threatened by competition from escaped pine seedlings into the habitat, and some areas around and within the reserve are densely infested with alien invasive hakeas.
