High altitude rock ledges and steep south-facing slopes in Swartberg Altimontane Sandstone Fynbos.
Threats
No severe threats. This rare, slow-growing reseeder is potentially threatened by too frequent fire.
Population

Erica gossypioides is an extremely rare, high altitude habitat specialist. Subpulations are very small, and the total population size is estimated to number fewer than 250 mature individuals, but is not suspected to be declining.
