Assessor(s)
E.G.H. Oliver & R.C. Turner
Justification
EOO 195 km², restricted to a habitat that is generally easily invaded by alien Hakea spp., but the particular areas where this species grows have not yet been invaded. Potentially threatened by alien invasion and a deleterious fire regime.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Du Toit's Kloof and Hex River Mountains.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Western Coastal Shale Band Vegetation, Northern Inland Shale Band Vegetation
Description
Fynbos, seepage areas on shale bands in mountains.
Threats
Ongoing alien invasive plant clearing is needed to prevent native plants being outcompeted. Shale bands within the Du Toit's Kloof range are particularly badly invaded by alien hakea and pine species. This species is also potentially threatened by too frequent fire: Du Toit's Kloof Mountains and the Matroosberg have burnt twice within 10 years.
Population

A rare and localized habitat specialist.

Population trend
Stable
Conservation
Protected in the Limietberg (Hawekwa) Nature Reserve.
