Justification
A range-restricted, high-altitude species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of less than 8 km². It grows in fire-protected habitats and is therefore not threatened by too frequent fires. It is listed globally under the IUCN 3.1 criteria as Least Concern but nationally as Rare.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This species is found in the Keeromsberg and Kwadousberg Mountains in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Western Altimontane Sandstone Fynbos, South Langeberg Sandstone Fynbos
Description
It occurs on rocks, boulder stacks and sheet rock at high altitudes.
Threats
This species grows in montane areas where there is little impact on natural vegetation except for too frequent fires. It occurs among large rocks and boulders where fires seldom reach, and it is therefore unlikely to be affected.
Population

Although very restricted, the population is large, consisting of at least 20 000 plants (R.C. Turner, pers. obs. 2004). While the current state of the population is unknown as it has not been recorded since 2004, it is inferred to be stable since there are no threats pertaining to it.
