Description
It occurs on lower slopes and flats in fynbos.
Threats
About 17% of this species' habitat is already irreversibly modified, predominantly due to historical loss to timber plantations. Plantations are no longer expanding, but subpopulations near plantations are threatened by competition from escaped pine seedlings that are spreading into native fynbos vegetation. It is also declining on the coastal lowlands due to habitat loss to urban expansion and coastal development.
Population

Erica scabriuscula is locally common in suitable habitat. In spite of ongoing habitat loss and degradation, it is estimated from recent field observations that it still persists at more than 40 locations.
