What was probably formerly one large subpopulation extending across the ferricrete flats to the north of the Soetanysberg has now been fragmented by habitat loss to crop cultivation. Small clumps of plants remain in road verges and tiny fragments between crop fields, however, >50% of the remaining population occur within an area now protected within the Agulhas National Park.
