Justification | A highly range-restricted habitat specialist, known from two subpopulations both numbering fewer than 10 mature individuals. One subpopulation is already possibly extinct due to competition from alien invasive plants. It is therefore assessed as Critically Endangered under criteria C and D. |

Description | Plants grow in bare patches of pure sand along stream banks where competition is slight. |
Threats |
| The subpopulation at the type locality on Bain's Kloof Pass has been badly invaded by alien invasive plants over the past 30 years. Invasive species were cleared about 15 years ago, but have been left unmanaged and are now re-invading the area (N.A. Helme pers. obs. 2016). The subpopulation on Du Toit's Kloof Pass is also potentially threatened by spreading alien invasive plants. |
Population |
There are two known subpopulations, about 10 km apart. Both subpopulations are small, consisting of fewer than 10 plants. The subpopulation at the type locality in Bain's Kloof was last observed in 2000, when there were only two plants. In 2016, these plants could not be found, the subpopulation has possibly succumbed to competition from alien invasive plants (N.A. Helme pers. obs. 2016).
