Range
This species is widespread across the eastern Drakensberg Escarpment, from around Graskop in Mpumalanga to the southern KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg. It also extends into Lesotho.

Description
It occurs in wet places, along streams or in still water in high altitude grassland.
Threats
Subpopulations in southern Mpumalanga and the Free State are threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation, predominantly due to development of agricultural infrastructure such as dams and drainage of wetlands, as well as erosion and degradation of wetland systems due to overgrazing. Its habitat in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg is well-protected and subpopulations in this area have no severe threats.
