This species is known from one location (EOO and AOO <10 km²), where it continues to decline due to ongoing habitat degradation. It is therefore assessed as Critically Endangered under criterion B.

Description
Plants grow in coarse sand among granite rocks in Gariep Mountain Succulent Shrubland.
Threats
The area where this species was last collected in the 1970s is near a well where livestock are brought in high numbers to drink. As a result the area is severely degraded due to overgrazing and trampling, and erosion of unstable granite-gravel slopes.
