Although this species is relatively rare in South Africa, it is extremely common and widespread elsewhere in Africa, and not threatened.

Range
Very widespread and common across Africa from Senegal southwards throughout tropical and southern Africa. Comparatively rare in South Africa, known only from the Kruger National Park, Tzaneen and Kaapse Hoop.
