Most moist grasslands in southern KwaZulu-Natal have been lost to commercial forestry plantations and agriculture, and only small fragments remain. These are often degraded due to overgrazing, inappropriate fire management, and spreading, unmanaged alien invasive plants. Wetlands are in addition often degraded due to drainage and damming. Development of housing estates in the Midlands is also an ongoing threat. |
