Justification
This Western Cape endemic has a limited distribution range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 434 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 20 km². Between four and six locations are known, and the population continues to decline due to expanding agriculture, overgrazing, alien plant invasion, and inappropriate fire management. It is therefore listed as Endangered under criterion B.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This species is endemic to a small area in the Western Cape, where it occurs from the Olifants River Mountains to Piketburg and Redelinghuys.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Swartland Shale Renosterveld, Leipoldtville Sand Fynbos
Description
It grows in sandstone fynbos on rocky mountain slopes.
Threats
A total of 71% of this species' habitat is already irreversibly modified. It has lost habitat to agriculture expansion and continues to decline due to rooibos tea and potato cultivation. There is ongoing habitat loss across the range to expanding agriculture and heavy grazing by wildlife and domesticated animals. It remains in fragments throughout its range, that are subjected to inappropriate fire management and infested with alien invasive species, which are outcompeting native species.
Population

The population trend is currently unknown, but a decline is inferred from severe habitat loss and degradation.
