Justification | This taxon is restricted to one mountain plateau with an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 4 km². It occurs at between one and three locations and is potentially threatened by the spread of invasive alien plants. It is thus assessed as Vulnerable under criterion D2. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | This taxon is found in Muizenberg Plateau, on the Cape Peninsula in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos |
Description | It is restricted to marshy habitats. |
Threats |
The spread of invasive alien plants is a significant potential threat to this species. While its entire range falls within the Table Mountain National Park, the protected area management authority SANPARKS are struggling to keep on top of alien clearing requirements. The moist marshy habitat in which this species occurs is particularly vulnerable to invasion. |
Population |
There is no data on the size of the population however four stands of plants have been documented on the iNaturalist platform between 2019 and 2021. The population is suspected to be stable at present but could decline rapidly if invasive alien plants spread to the marshy habitats where it occurs.
