A widespread species that is known from four locations in South Africa, and likely to be threatened by droughts, agricultural activities and alien invasive species. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.
Distribution
Endemism
Not endemic to South Africa
Provincial distribution
Limpopo, Mpumalanga
Range
This species occurs in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, from Kruger National Park to Limpopo River. It is also widespread outside South Africa.

Description
It occurs in lakes, dams, ponds, swamps, and on floodplains in permanent or temporary pools, also in slow flowing water.
Threats
The species' habitat outside protected areas is potentially threatened by trampling of wetland systems, eutrophication due to fertilizer runoff, prolonged periods of droughts and alien invasive species.
Population

The species was previously known from three collections, dating from 1948. It was discovered in 2001 at a new location, more than 100 km away from other subpopulations. The population has however not been thoroughly surveyed, and there is an uncertainty about the number of mature individuals. The population trend is not known, but is suspected to be stable.
