Description
Granite soils.
Threats
Much of the Richtersveld is overstocked with livestock, and overgrazing and trampling is causing ongoing degradation. In the central mountains the grazing pressure is however currently low. Herders are starting to move their livestock into some of the more remote mountainous areas as rangelands on the plains and closer to settlements are becoming increasingly degraded and no more palatable plant species remain. Other, more widespread Gethyllis species have thus far proven to be fairly resilient even to heavy overgrazing, but it is not known whether this taxon is able to persist under conditions of erosion and trampling. Gethyllis fruits are also collected as food and for medicinal purposes, and because this taxon is rare, over collecting could potentially have a negative impact on the survival of the population.
Population

A rare and poorly known taxon, but also possibly overlooked. It is currently known from a few small, scattered subpopulations.
