Justification | A range-restricted species (EOO <120 km²) which only flowers after fire and is therefore seldom seen. It is, however, locally common after fire. The majority of the population occurs with a protected area and hence it is not considered threatened. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | Outeniqua Mountains. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | South Outeniqua Sandstone Fynbos |
Description | Montane fynbos on seasonally moist slopes, sandy soils. |
Threats |
One subpopulation declined as a result of road construction. This is however not an ongoing threat and other known subpopulations occur in protected areas far from roads and are unlikely to be threatened. |
Population |
Cyrtanthus debilis is seldom seen, as plants remain dormant and only flower in response to fire. After fires, however, this species can be locally abundant.

Population trend | Stable |
Conservation |
Protected in the Outeniqua Nature Reserve. |
