Threats
This species has already lost more than 70% of its habitat, predominantly for crop cultivation, and large sections are also severely degraded due to dense infestations of alien invasive plants. Most subpopulations remain on small fragments, and are threatened by ongoing habitat loss to urban expansion, agricultural development, and the spread of alien invasive plants.
Population

Previously thought to be very rare due to extensive habitat loss and fragmentation, it has been recently recorded from around 30 locations. It is never common, but is able to survive severe disturbance and can even be found in extremely small and degraded remnants. It has also been found to occur in a wider range of habitats than previously thought, including lowland sand fynbos and strandveld.
