National Status
Status and Criteria
Data Deficient - Insufficient Information
Assessment Date

Assessor(s)
L. von Staden
Justification
Currently known from a single subpopulation, which is protected within a private nature reserve. It is however highly likely to be overlooked elsewhere as it is a short-lived species appearing only in the first year after fire. The full distribution range, population structure and threats to this species are not known and an assessment of extinction risk cannot be made at present.

Major habitats

Description
Agulhas Limestone Fynbos.
Threats
The only known subpopulation is not threatened, as it is protected within a private nature reserve. Limestone fynbos in surrounding areas are extensively affected by dense alien invasive plant infestations, but the effect on short-lived species such as Dasispermum grandicarpum is not known.
Population

Known from a single subpopulation observed in fynbos burnt the previous year. Subsequent searches failed to record any plants. It is quite likely to be a short-lived fireweed and overlooked as a consequence, therefore more subpopulations could possibly exist.
