Justification
A highly localized habitat specialist and Cape Peninsula endemic (EOO 6 km²), known from fewer than five locations and declining due to habitat loss to urban expansion and alien plant invasion.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Western Cape Peninsula, Hout Bay to Kommetjie.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Cape Flats Dune Strandveld, Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos, Peninsula Granite Fynbos, Hangklip Sand Fynbos
Description
Deep, sandy coastal flats and dunes and lower slopes.
Threats
Threatened by urban expansion, coastal development and alien plant invasion. Sandy coastal flats are an extremely restricted habitat on the western Cape Peninsula, and most of the northern parts of this species' range is already lost to urban expansion of Hout Bay and Noordhoek. Remaining areas of suitable habitat are largely protected within the Table Mountain National Park but are infested by alien invasive plants requiring continuing intensive management.
Population

A rare and highly localized species known from only one subpopulation at present, but a few others are likely to remain. More surveys are required to define the population size and structure.

Decreasing
