Justification
Hymenophyllum aeruginosum occurs in montane areas where it is not threatened. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 10 481 km², and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is found in the mountains of the western and southern Cape from Groot Winterhoek to the Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Knysna. This species also occurs on islands in the south Atlantic including Gough and Tristan da Cunha.

Description
It is epiphytic in moist, sheltered rocky sites in montane areas, usually near streams in forest patches.
Threats
Hymenophyllum aeruginosum has no known significant threats.
Population

It is a rare and localized habitat specialist, forming mats in suitable habitat (Crouch et al. 2011).
