Justification
Ludwigia leptocarpa is widespread in eastern South Africa. It is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation, but not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

This species is widespread in the eastern, western and central Africa. In South Africa it occurs along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, from Durban to the border of Mozambique.

Description
Plants grow in shallow water sometimes submerged, in marches, stream banks, temporary pools, and sometimes grow on drying mud.
Threats
This species has lost parts of its habitat along the coast to agriculture and infrastructure development in the past. Alien invasive species are a potential threat to many subpopulations.
Population

This is a rare and seldomly recorded species, which is probably much more common than collection records indicate. The population trend is unknown.
