Range
This species is endemic to the Western and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa, where it occurs from the Little Karoo around Ladismith and the eastern Overberg eastwards to Grahamstown and Port Alfred.

Description
It occurs in succulent karoo, thicket, grassy fynbos and renosterveld.

Notes
The two variants of A. lineata are mainly distinguished by a difference in flowering time (Reynolds 1969, Glen and Hardy 2000). Their distribution ranges overlap, and they are difficult to separate morphologically when not in flower. Therefore A. lineata is assessed at species level only.
