Aloe vanrooyenii has a restricted range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 1176 km². It is locally common and has no severe threats, and is therefore not suspected to be in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to central KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where it occurs in the Ladysmith, Dundee, Harrismith and Underberg districts.

Description

Aloe vanrooyenii is a recently described species of maculate Aloe that was overlooked in the past as a distinct taxon. The distribution is quite likely somewhat wider than what is currently known (N.R. Crouch pers. comm. 2008).
