Justification
A range-restricted species (EOO 4553 km²), that has lost 80% of its habitat to crop cultivation. Based on rates of habitat loss, it is estimated that the population has declined by at least 50% within the past 30 years (one generation of this slow-growing, long-lived species).

Major habitats
Schweizer-Reneke Bushveld, Stella Bushveld, Klerksdorp Thornveld, Highveld Alluvial Vegetation
Description
Thornveld, deep sandy soils on plains.
Threats
This species' habitat is extensively cultivated, and subpopulations occur on isolated remnants of natural vegetation among crop fields (Smith et al. 2012). Currently, less than 20% of natural vegetation remains within this species' known range, and loss is ongoing and rapid, with a 57% loss over the past 30 years (estimated using GIS).
Population

Plants are long-lived and typically form dense clumps of up to 70 flowering heads (Smith et al. 2012). It has a restricted range, isolated from other members of the Aloe zebrina complex, and is currently known from only a few subpopulations, but surveys may reveal more. It is absent from extensive areas of suitable habitat further east towards Klerksdorp (Smith et al. 2012). Plants occur in remnant patches of sandy thornveld, and based on the extent of habitat loss, the population is estimated to have declined by at least 50% over the past generation (30 years).
