Justification
A survey of the range of this species by C. Craib reported extensive declines in the population in the last 30 years as a result of habitat loss to coal mining, overgrazing by cattle, urban expansion (especially in Gauteng), crop cultivation in the eastern North West Province and alien plant invasion in western Mpumalanga and North West Province. The full extent of the decline is unknown, but is suspected to be over 25%.
