A widespread and common species. In spite of ongoing habitat loss, it is not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is scattered throughout tropical Africa and Madagascar. In South Africa, it has a scattered distribution in Zululand and Maputaland, the Mpumalanga Lowveld, and the dry northern regions of the Limpopo Province.

Description
Plants grow in seasonally moist alluvial flats on edges of pools and streams.
Threats
It has lost about 20% of its habitat to expanding rural settlements and agriculture. Rapid loss continues in parts of Maputaland and the Lowveld.
