This species is widespread and not in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

It occurs in Maputaland coastal plain through to Malamulele. It also occurs in Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland.

Description
Plants grow in seasonally flooded places, swamps and sometimes brackish water.
Population

A combination of herbarium specimens and field surveys conducted in 2011 during the wetland project for Water Research Commission (Report No. 1980/1/14) indicate that there are 12 scattered subpopulations. However, extensive areas of suitable habitat has not yet been surveyed, and it may be more common.
