It is localized to stream sides, where it occurs on sandy or rocky streambeds.
Threats
Platycaulos callistachyus is threatened from habitat degradation, habitat loss and invasive alien species.
Population

This species is a localized habitat specialist, but it is common or even dominant in suitable habitat.
