Higher Classification | Monocotyledons |
Family | RESTIONACEAE |
Synonyms | Phyllocomos insignis Mast. |
National Status |
Status and Criteria | Vulnerable D2 |
Assessment Date | 2007/05/17 |
Assessor(s) | H.P. Linder, N.A. Helme & D. Raimondo |
Justification | This species has an area of occupancy (AOO) of less than 20 km² and is restricted to the lower reaches of a few streams and in some marshes in the Ceres basin. It is potentially threatened by water flow modification from damming and weir construction upstream of subpopulations. It therefore qualifies as Vulnerable under criterion D. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | It occurs in the mountains around Ceres. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | North Hex Sandstone Fynbos, Winterhoek Sandstone Fynbos |
Description | Plants grow in high-energy permanent streams. |
Threats |

Population |
Population trend | Stable |
