Widespread across the drier parts of tropical Africa from Senegal, Gambia and Mali eastward to Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia, and southward to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and eastern South Africa. It also occurs in Madagascar.

Description
Forest margins, secondary forest, scrub and riverine bush in moist regions, in drier regions on alkaline or somewhat brackish soils in open situations such as pans, river banks and roadsides.
