This species has a very localized distribution in South Africa, but it is not threatened. It is widespread outside South Africa. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

This species is found from Malelane to the northern KwaZulu-Natal coastal plain. It is widespread further northwards to tropical Africa.

Description
Plants grow in montane and lowland forests, riverine forest and moist, shady places in woodland.
Threats
There are no severe threats to this species in South Africa. Most of its habitat is protected.
Population

There are only three known subpopulations of this species in South Africa: at Sodwana Bay, Kosi Bay and around Malelane in eastern Mpumalanga. The population is not suspected to be declining.
