Brachystelma theronii has a restricted distribution range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 689 km². It is likely to be more common and widespread than records indicate and is not suspected to be declining or in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Description
It occurs on dolerite-capped shale hills in karroid shrubland.
Threats
Brachystelma theronii occurs in a remote, sparsely populated area and is not suspected to have any significant threats. Its specific microhabitat serves to protect it from impacts of livestock overgrazing.
Population

This species is currently known from three scattered locations across the western Great Karoo, an area that is botanically relatively poorly explored. It is likely to be overlooked and more widespread and common than records indicate.
